This coffee comes from the Barichu Farmers Cooperative Society in Nyeri County, just southwest of Mount Kenya. The cooperative operates 4 mills for its nearly 1000 members; on average, each member cultivates about 250 trees. This lot is comprised of SL28, SL34 and Ruiru 11 varieties grown near the Gaturiri factory at elevations between 1700 - 1900 meters. After drying, beans are sorted and separated by size into AA — the largest beans, and AB — the smaller beans. While bean size doesn't necessarily correlate with quality, the uniformity in size means the beans roast more evenly and possess more clarity and intensity. We are loving this coffee for its vibrant flavors of cranberry and cara cara orange.
